Lloyds Foundation marks 25 years of giving in Northern Ireland

Howard Lake | 4 October 2011 | News

Lloyds TSB Foundation has marked 25 years of charitable giving in Northern Ireland this year, and use the occasion to report that it received the highest ever number of grant applications in one year in 2010.
It received 522 applications, of which 296 were successful. Many grants were in the £2,000 to £5,000 range. Total expenditure on ‘charitable activities’ was £1.96 million, up from £1.5 million in 2009.
The Foundation’s total income in 2010 was £1.9 million. This is considerably down on 2009 when total income was £3.18 million but that year’s figure was inflated by £1 million in special income related to the sale of Lloyds Bank shares.
Last year the largest allocation of funding, £1.8 million, went to ‘Social and Community Welfare.’ While the bulk of the Foundation’s spending was for Northern Ireland projects £172,000 was given to organisations carrying out work overseas.
Earlier this year the Foundation restricted its grant giving to organisations with an income under £1 million. The next closing date for applications is 14 October 2011.
