Charity safety challenge raises €3 million for Simon Community

A four year partnership between Irish building materials company CRH and the Simon Community has raised almost €3 million. It focused on a challenge: for every accident-free quarter achieved at any CRH company location across the island of Ireland, a sum of money was donated to the Simon Community operating in that region.
This sum was up to a maximum of €500,000 over the course of 2010, and up to a maximum of €1 million in the three previous years.
The latest cheque from CRH for €401,947 to the Simon Communities in Ireland brings the total raised since 2007 to €2,927,980, making it one of the most successful charity and corporate partnerships to date in Ireland.
The CRH Simon Safety Challenge is an all-island initiative that assists Simon in tackling homelessness both north and south of the border whilst encouraging CRH employees to improve their health and safety record.
The partnership began in 2007 as a three-year initiative. But it was extended for an additional year. In 2007, the partnership raised €777,062, in 2008 it generated €842,355, and in 2009 it raised €906,658.
