Anthony Nolan receives its largest trust grant to date
The Jack Petchey Foundation is to give £619,000 to Anthony Nolan, the charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer who need a blood stem cell, or bone marrow, transplant. The grant represents the largest single charitable trust donation that the charity has ever received. It marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership between the two organisations.
The Foundation, founded by businessman Jack Petchey CBE, encourages young people to realise their potential and contribute to society. The Foundation decided to support Anthony Nolan after it learnt that the charity is urgently trying to recruit more young donors to its stem cell register.
Trudy Kilcullen, Chief Operating Officer at the Foundation, said: “We want young people to play a full part in society, and signing up to donate their blood stem cells is one of the greatest things they can do, as they could help save somebody’s life. We also know that there is a shortage of young donors, especially young men and those from different ethnic backgrounds, so we hope that this donation will harness the energy of our young people and enable the charity to save even more lives.”
There are currently over 425,000 people on the Anthony Nolan register, but the charity can only find a match for half the people who come to them in need of a potentially lifesaving transplant. Anthony Nolan aims to grow the register to one million potential donors so they can help save more lives.
