BT competition for PTAs offers £4000 for IT
Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) are being encouraged to enter the BT Internet Rangers School Award which offers a prize of £4,000 to spend on IT equipment.
The award will reward schools or groups of schools that have helped or plan to help older people in their local community make the most of the Internet. The winning school will receive a cheque for £4,000. Two runners-up will be awarded a cheque for £2,500.
The competition website features tools that offer free information and inspiration on how to share IT skills that most youngsters and schools take for granted, with people who can really benefit from the new knowledge.
Last year, Great Barr School was named the BT Internet Rangers School of the Year 2010. Pupils from the school have visited local nursing home Perry Locks for the last three years to provide computing and Internet training to groups of residents. Great Barr used its £4,000 winner’s award to buy laptops to support the pupils’ work and also to loan them out to residents, complete with larger-sized keyboards.
The closing date to submit applications is 17.30 on 24 October 2011.
