Rainforest charity to benefit from donated old cars

Howard Lake | 16 May 2011 | News

The rainforest charity Cool Earth has partnered with car recycling scheme Charity Car to raise funds. Charity Car lets people and businesses donate the value of their old car to the charity Cool Earth. It collects the car from the donor at no charge and passes on 100% of the car’s market value to the donor’s chosen charity.
Cool Earth’s director Matthew Owen, said: “By getting rid of your old scrap car through Charity Car, you can protect at least two acres of rainforest with Cool Earth, locking in around 520 tonnes in CO2 emissions. Who would have thought your old banger could do all that for the environment.”
Charity Car is a new initiative from Caretakeback.com. Rebecca Roddis from Charity Car said: “The average car generates around 2.6 tonnes in CO2 emissions per year. Through the Charity Car scheme, you can donate to Cool Earth and more than offset your car’s lifespan by protecting rainforest.”
Donated cars are sold at auction to the highest bidder. Money raised is then passed on to the charity of the seller’s choice. For cars that have reached the end of the road, Cartakeback will make sure each one is recycled in line with EU regulations at a licensed recycling centre.
