RNLI receives £916,510 grant from long-standing trust supporter

The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust has made a grant of £916,510 to the RNLI to help fund training for newly recruited lifeboat crew members for the next five years.
The money given by The LRET will enable new volunteers to be trained in a variety of vital subjects including how to deal with fires aboard lifeboats, how to right a capsized inshore lifeboat, how to work with helicopters and the importance of lifejackets.
This donation is the latest in The LRET’s relationship with the RNLI, which was recognised last year when it received the Group Supporter Award from HRH Prince Michael of Kent in recognition of its valuable support of the charity. The LRET is a charity working to achieve advances in transportation, science, engineering and technology education, training and research worldwide.
In August 2007 The LRET agreed to help fund the RNLI’s Sea Survival Course for three years, donating £625,000 over three years (over 50% of total course costs).
David Brann, RNLI Fundraising and Communications Director, said: “We are extremely grateful that it has chosen to fund sea survival training, which teaches vital core skills to our volunteer crew. The fact that The LRET has committed to fund us over a five-year period is a huge bonus, as it allows us to plan our future training with confidence.”
