Lionel Blair becomes patron of British Polio Fellowship

TV personality Lionel Blair has become a patron of the British Polio Fellowship, the charity which helps, supports and empowers the 120,000 people in the UK living with the effects of polio and Post Polio Syndrome.
Blair has performed on stage and screen for more than five decades, appearing in TV shows including Name That Tune and Give Us A Clue. On stage Lionel played the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and starred in Who Killed Agatha Christie. He also hosted the Simply Ballroom tour.
Pam Jones, chairman of the British Polio Fellowship, said: “It’s a real coup for us have such a well-known celebrity donating his time and effort into our charity. Our members should really be able to identify with Lionel and his patronage will strengthen the work we carry out.”
Blair explained that he used to know a dancer who had had polio as a child. “She was an inspiration,” he said, “and I don’t want people to think that when they have polio their life is over. I will do everything I can to raise awareness of the work of the Fellowship.”
