Community Foundation for Lancashire launches women's fund

Howard Lake | 8 March 2011 | News

The Community Foundation for Lancashire is today launching a new charitable fund to help tackle social and economic issues affecting women across the Lancashire. The fund is being unveiled on the 100th International Women’s Day, and Dame Stephanie Shirley, the Government Ambassador for Philanthropy, will be speaking.
The Community Foundation aims to raise over £100,000 from individuals and companies to establish the fund. It will then form an endowment fund and distribute grants to fund projects and charities addressing women’s issues.
Cathy Elliott, Community Foundation Chief Executive said: “Parts of Lancashire are severely deprived with levels of domestic violence, unemployment, poor health and social and economic problems far higher than other regions. This fund will make a vital long-term difference to women who are desperately in need of help and we urgently needs support to enable it to deliver maximum impact across Lancashire”.
The Community Foundation for Lancashire is a registered charity and undertakes grant-making, facilitates philanthropy and “contributes to achieving positive social change in Lancashire’s local communities”.
