Princess Anne launches the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods Project
Businesses are being offered an alternative sponsorship opportunity to the Olympics in 2012 thanks to Her Majesty the Queen and a national charity.
To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee the Woodland Trust has launched its £10 million Jubilee Woods Project, which has the support of the Queen. The project aims to see sixty 60 acre Diamond woods and 100s of Jubilee community woods created throughout the UK.
Company support is crucial to the project’s success which is why the Woodland Trust is asking businesses to sponsor the creation of many of these new community woods, or pledge support for the overall project. A range of products are available to businesses of all sizes.
In return companies will share in a unique marketing message; become involved in a national celebration that resonates with UK and international customers; give back to the UK environment and communities and publicise their sustainability credentials to stake-holders.
Stephanie Henderson, fundraising manager at the Woodland Trust, said: “The enormous public support for the recent Forestry Commission sell off consultation has shown that woodland is an issue close to the heart of consumers in the UK. We feel the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee offers a fantastic opportunity for businesses to show their customers they also care and support woodland and the UK environment.
“A lot of businesses have also decided not to get involved in the Olympics but are still looking for opportunities to take advantage of in 2012. The Queen’s Jubilee will enjoy huge national and global recognition which makes the Jubilee Woods Project such a great opportunity for businesses. Not only will they be part of leaving a lasting green legacy on the UK landscape but will also enjoy association with a national celebration that they can communicate to their stakeholders.”
· Companies can support the project in a number of ways, such as: creating ‘on pack’ promotions to help deliver CSR messages, sponsor community tree planting events, create their own company wood or for a national message, sponsor the creation of smaller community woods across the UK.
· SMEs can support the project for as little as £500. Packages include opportunities to engage, support and help local communities celebrate the jubilee.
The project is likely to involve 10 per cent of the population in creating 100s of new copses, smaller Jubilee Woods and large Diamond Woods in local area across the country. These new trees and woods will be planted from autumn 2011 until the close of 2012.
The Queen has offered her support to the project, with HRH The Princess Royal being its patron. The Princess Royal marked the launch recently by planting a commemorative tree with Woodland Trust President Clive Anderson, as well as placing a personal letter of support in a specially designed Jubilee Woods time capsule.
In her letter of support to the project, The Princess Royal said: “I am delighted to be part of the plans to create 60 special woods, each paying tribute to a year of the Queen’s reign.
“I look forward to working with companies, communities, families and individuals as the Jubilee Woods project unfolds. By coming together, I know we can create something lasting and wonderful.”
