Charities urged to make their fundraising count
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants will be running a free evening event urging and helping charities to make their fundraising work. With budgets being cut and the average consumer having less money to spend, this CIMA event will look at the latest ways to help fundraising work.
Charities can need to learn about and look at fundraising trading, primary purpose trading and mixed trading, and consider the related risks, taxation and the possibility of making loss. They will have the opportunity to learn from speaker’s personal experiences in four charity sectors, including social enterprises, and will cover cash flow problems, how they arose and successful techniques for survival. In addition there will be an opportunity to network with other members of the charity sector in the North West, and to share experiences and know-how.
The two key speakers, Janet Slade, who has worked as a policy accountant with the Charity Commission since 2008, and Jack Christian, ACMA is a senior lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, who has a special interest in environmental and charity issues will cover these key areas of fundraising.
CIMA regards this event as a practical way to support the charity sector; providing an opportunity to get up-to-date with the latest thinking in the sector within the region. CIMA President, George Glass, says, ‘Despite a decline and concern about job losses in the public sector, there is an ongoing shortage of skilled professionals – those with a management accounting background will help achieve long-term, sustainable success.’
The event is on the 8th Febraury and runs 7.00-9.30pm at the Barton Grange Hotel, Preston PR3 5AA. Contact
