JustGiving announces six charity finalists in its 2011 Awards
Online fundraising platform JustGiving has announced the six charity finalists in its 2011 Awards. Sponsored by PayPal, the annual awards celebrate outstanding individuals and organisations who have given their time, effort and money to charity through the JustGiving website during the last year.
There are a lot to choose from. Between January and December 2010, 555,943 fundraising pages were set up by members of the public for charities on JustGiving to raise money for good causes.
Live Life then Give Life, Shelterbox and The Sick Children’s Trust have been shortlisted in the category ‘Charity of the Year (People’s Choice)’.
Childs i Foundation, Meningitis Research Foundation and MND Scotland have been shortlisted in the category ‘Most Creative Charity of the Year’.
Lucy Buck, Founder and Project Director at Child’s i Foundation, was “chuffed to bits” for being nominated. She said: “We are very honoured to be nominated for the Creative Charity of the Year in the JG Awards 2011. We rely on a worldwide community of supporters giving their love, time and coming up with creative ways to raise money for our projects supporting orphans in Uganda.”
Other award categories include Young Fundraiser of the Year; Most Creative Fundraiser; Endurance Fundraiser of the Year; Fundraiser of the Year; Lifetime Achievement Award; Celebrity Fundraiser of the Year; Most Popular Fundraiser; and Most Successful Fundraiser. Anne-Marie Huby, MD at JustGiving, said that over 500 entries were received for this year’s awards.
The judging panel for these, the second annual awards, includes Amanda McLean, chief executive of the Institute of Fundraising; Dame Stephanie Shirley, chair of the Philanthropy Advice Steering Group; Mike Tomlinson, chief executive of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal; Jemima Kiss, The Guardian; and Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technology correspondent.
