The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Furniture & Electrical Store in Northampton has won the charity’s competition for Store of the Year following a profitable year.
Last year the store made £247,000 profit. An average BHF Furniture & Electrical Store makes a yearly profit of £120,000.
Mike Lucas, Retail Director for the BHF said: “The Northampton Store has had an excellent year thanks to dedicated staff and volunteers and the vital support shown from the Northampton public. The Store has more than doubled its average profit in the past year, 100% of which will be put towards research and care for patients suffering from heart disease.”
Furniture & Electrical Stores are a rapidly expanding business venture for the BHF, which has over 100 across England, Scotland and Wales, and plans to open a further 40 such stores in 2011.
The BHF now has over 640 Shops, staffed by over 17,000 volunteers. Last year these shops raised over £22 million, selling around 60,000 items every day to 15 million customers and over 17,000 volunteers.
BHF Furniture & Electrical Stores across the UK are currently taking part in The Big Donation, the biggest stock appeal so far by a UK charity. The BHF hopes it will raise £8 million.
