Children’s charity NSPCC and retailer SPAR UK are extending their fundraising partnership for a fifth year, with the aim of raising £500,000 in 2010–11 to help expand the NSPCC Helpline.
Fundraising starts on 20 September, through SPAR’s sponsorship of new Channel Five show ‘Meals in Moments’. For three weeks, chef Simon Rimmer will be joined by a different celebrity as they cook their favourite quick and easy dish. A recipe book of the series will go on sale at participating SPAR stores and online from Amazon, priced at £4.99. The NSPCC will receive 50p from each book sale.
SPAR will hold its charity week between 11 and 18 October during which SPAR staff will be encouraged to hold chef-themed fancy dress days. Customers will be invited to host their own dinner parties for friends and neighbours, asking guests for a suggested £5-£10 donation.
The run-up to Christmas will see special promotions on Christmas sandwiches at SPAR. Stores will also be encouraged to hold ‘Stop 4 Christmas’ where customers can take a break from their Christmas shop and enjoy a mince pie and glass of mulled wine.
There are over 2,600 SPAR stores in the UK, employing over 50,000 people. The company has a turnover of over £2.61 billion.
In Scotland SPAR is raising funds for CHILDREN 1ST, with money going towards their Parentline service.
