New Covent Garden soup to raise funds for RNLI

Howard Lake | 27 July 2010 | News

Sales of cartons of New Covent Garden’s fresh Smoked Haddock Chowder soup are now generating a donation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Available in UK branches of Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Tesco, the soup will be available until June 2011.
Each of the cartons features the RNLI lifeboat Spirit of Padstow on the front, along with the RNLI logo and information about the charity.
The food company hopes to raise at least £14,000 for the RNLI over the year, which will go towards training and equipping its volunteer crew members.
Nick Munby, Senior Brand Manager from New Covent Garden, said: “We wanted to show our support for the RNLI on our Smoked Haddock Chowder soup cartons and in particular highlight the charity’s role in helping to keep fishermen safe. Fishing is one of the UK’s most hazardous industries and the RNLI rescued 864 fishermen last year alone.”
