The Institute of Fundraising has published its revised code on outdoor events fundraising in the UK.
The Outdoor UK Challenge Events Code of Fundraising Practice provides best practice ./guidance for outdoor fundraising events in the UK. It is intended to cover sky diving, Three Peaks challenges, running and cycling events, off-road events and similar outdoor fundraising events. The Institute makes it clear that it is a code of practice so is not a comprehensive ‘how to’ guide.
The Code now includes a specific section on the Three Peaks Challenge, one of the more popular events but one which has in the past caused friction amongst some of those living and working in the areas used. The Code emphasises the importance of preserving the natural environment.
To help ensure compliance with the Code, the Institute is encouraging landowners such as the National Parks to refer complaints about any charities which contravene the ./guidance in the new Code to the Fundraising Standards Board. Louise Richards, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Institute of Fundraising, said: “We feel this will help raise standards in outdoor fundraising, which remains a popular form of raising money for charity.”
