Walk under the midnight stars for Sue Ryder Care
Night creatures stir in the moon-light, the expression ‘turn into a pumpkin’ and town hall clocks chime to mark a new day are just some of the things associated with the midnight hour. Thanks to Sue Ryder Care a new addition to this list of midnight activities is the healthcare charity’s Midnight Walks, in which women come together at the stroke of 12 and walk or run an organised route under the stars.
Over the past three years over 7,000 women nationwide have taken part in Sue Ryder Care’s annual Midnight Walks and raised more than £500,000 through fundraising efforts.
The 2010 women-only Sue Ryder Care Midnight Walks will take place at 17 different locations across the country between April and September. All money raised through fundraising efforts of participants will support Sue Ryder Care provide end of life and long term care for people living with conditions including Cancer, Stroke, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.
Gemma Buttimer, Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Care, said: ‘Last year it was a fantastic event with such an exciting atmosphere. We’re encouraging women – of all ages – to gather their female friends and relatives together and make this year’s event a night to be remembered.”
The Midnight Walks will follow circular route ranging from 7km to 13 miles depending on the location. Participants will enjoy a fun warm up before the countdown to walk at midnight. At the finish line, all walkers will receive special Midnight Walk goodies, medal and a well earned breakfast.
Gemma, added: “By entering our Midnight Walks, women can support the charity continue to provide quality end of life and long term neurological care that makes a real difference to thousands of people’s lives each year, so we are asking each walker to raise £120 in sponsorship to ensure we hit our target”
For a limited time, ladies can take advantage of the Early Bird offer and register at last year’s fee of £12. This offer runs from set dates for each walk location, so hurry to book your place now.
