Retail and commercial bank Santander is to give away £250,000 to local charities and is asking customers across its 1,000 branches to help choose which organisations should receive a share.
The Santander Community Chest scheme has been launched as the bank rebrands Abbey and Bradford & Bingley.

Every branch has already nominated three local causes. Customers visiting their branch from 11 January until 26 February will be invited to vote for their favourite. The winning charities will receive a share of the Community Chest.

Local branch managers should by now have let the selected local charities know. Charities are welcome to call into their local Santander branch to find out who has been selected: there will be a voting stand with the names of those charities that have been selected prominently displayed.

Christianne Carrick, Community Relations Manager at Santander, said: "The Community Chest scheme is a great example of Santander working together with its customers to support the charities that are important to them".

The scheme is in addition to its ongoing support to charities: last year it donated over £5 million to local charities.
