Telephone fundraising summit gets underway

Senior sector representatives are meeting in London this morning at a telephone fundraising summit to address confusion about telephone fundraising regulations.

The meeting was called for earlier this month by Hugh McCaw, chief executive of telephone fundraising provider Relationship Marketing.

The summit was due to begin at 09.30, and is being chaired by Colin Lloyd, Chair of the Fundraising Standards Board and of the Telephone Preference Service.

It is being attended by Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising, Alistair McLean, Chief Executive of the Fundraising Standards Board, and senior representatives from the Information Commissioner’s Office, Telephone Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association, the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association.

The summit will cover a review of the various regulations, legislation and codes, with a chance to clarify areas of confusion or dispute. It will then include a discussion about the forthcoming review of the EU Data Protection Directive and its implications for fundraising.
