Spar to raise €200,000 for suicide charity

Turning the Tide of Suicide (3Ts) will receive €200,000 from Spar stores around the country this year after it was selected as the chain’s charity of the year.
The 3Ts charity got a massive boost last week when Spar launched the Luv Bear, a charity teddy bear that was launched on TV3 show The Apprentice.
Thousands of the bears have been sold since the television show was broadcast, according to the Sunday Business Post.

3Ts was founded by solicitor and property developer Noel Smyth.
The money will now be used to fund the helpline called 1Life, which will be staffed by professional counsellors and volunteers, and run by the 3Ts and suicide prevention charity, Console.
3Ts is backed by former taoiseach Bertie Ahern and supported by tycoon Ben Dunne. The launch of the bear comes in the same week that a study showed a big rise in the number of Irish people taking their own lives.
