A group of radio fans are once again establishing a radio station to broadcast in the run-up to Christmas to raise funds for homelessness charity, the Simon Community.

Christmas FM has a license to broadcast ony in December. Organisers are already seeking sponsors.

Last year the radio station went down well in Dublin, and raised €35,000 for the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children. This year it is expanding its reach to Cork.

The station raises funds for charity through text messages and sponsorship. Last year it received 11 million text messages.

The station expects to attract over 100 volunteers, including those who work at regional commercial radio stations, so will therefore offer a full daytime schedule.

The station will also broadcast via its website.
