Gift Ease offers free tools to calculate retrospective Gift Aid

Howard Lake | 8 June 2009 | News

Gift Aid management service Gift Ease is offering two free online tools for charities to help them calculate how much they could lose if they don’t act in time before the retrospective tax claim period drops from six to four years starting next year.

The Gift Aid calculator asks for the total amount of individuals’ donations received for the financial period, an estimate of what proportion has already been claimed in terms of Gift Aid, and it then calculates the potential Gift Aid that the charity could still reclaim.

The figures should make for compelling reading, not least given the fact that the reclaim period is about to be reduced by two years, starting in 2010.

Gift Ease’s RQP (or Retrospective Qualifying Period) Calculator lets charities calculate how much time they have to try and reclaim retrospective tax. To use it you need to have registered on Gift Ease’s site, although there is no charge to do so.

The calculator makes it clear that you need to define whether your organisation is registered for tax as a trust or company as the results will be different.

Of course, these calculators are intended for ./guidance only. Gift Ease offer a more detailed healthcheck and other Gift Aid services.

Nevertheless, they should help charities get a good overview of the amount of Gift Aid that they should be claiming before the reclaim period reduction takes effect.
