The 2009 Fundraising Salary Survey by fundraising recruitment specialists, the Kage Partnership, reports that the average salary for fundraisers rose by 2.8% during 2008.
The agency’s latest annual salary survey is based on more than 500 fundraising vacancies in London for 169 charities that it handled during 2008.
Fundraising managers enjoyed a slightly larger salary increase compared to the average, with Trust Fundraising Managers and Events Managers faring best. In contrast, corporate fundraising salaries have “reach[ed] a plateau”.
Director/Heads of Fundraising at small/medium size organisations in the survey enjoy salaries ranging from £30,000 – £60,000, with the average being £46,500. Fundraising Assistants earn from £16,000 – £25,000 with the average being £20,000.
Kage have noted an increase in the number of job seekers relative to the number of vacancies, and a better supply of strong candidates, with a growing number of commercial sector candidates wanting to make the move to the not-for-profit sector. However, there is still a skills shortage in some areas, particularly Direct Marketing and Major Donor fundraising.
