Local company spreads charitable cheer this Christmas

Big Biscuit benefits local charities with novel eco-friendly Christmas card idea
Macclesfield design company Big Biscuit is helping two worthy local causes and reducing its carbon footprint with a modern twist on the traditional Christmas card.
Instead of printing and posting traditional Christmas cards to its clients, Big Biscuit is emailing a special festive e-card, with the pledge that the money saved will be donated to two local charities.
National charity Vitalise is one of the two causes benefiting from Big Biscuit’s seasonal generosity. Vitalise runs Sandpipers, a holiday centre for disabled people and carers in Southport, plus four other Centres around the country. The other beneficiary is East Cheshire Hospice.
In addition to providing much-needed funds for charity, the e-card also helps Big Biscuit reduce its carbon footprint, meaning the company’s generosity comes at a negligible environmental impact.
Commenting on the idea, Steve James, MD of Big Biscuit, said: “We support many local charities, schools and sports clubs. Vitalise came to our attention this year through a new working relationship, so we are very happy to support them. The e-card has the benefit of allowing recipients to click through to the two charities’ websites and make their own donation, in addition to ours. Next year we are hoping to pledge 10% of our profit to charities.”
Vitalise Chief Executive Jonathan Powell commented: “What a wonderful idea. In these times of economic hardship, we are all having to tighten our belts and charity giving is often one of the first things to suffer. It’s at times like these that we really need imaginative solutions. Big Biscuit has come up with a novel and innovative way of supporting the essential work Vitalise does in the region. We hope many other companies follow Big Biscuit’s fantastic example.”
