Irish Heart and Vodafone partner to promote 999

Howard Lake | 26 November 2008 | News

The Irish Heart Foundation and Vodafone Ireland Foundation have announced a new funding partnership which will promote the use of 999 calls for emergencies.
According to the national heart health charity, despite good awareness of the emergency number 999, vital minutes are often lost because a call is made to a clergyman or relative at the first sign of emergency. 70% of cardiac arrests occur outside of hospital in front of a family member or friend so the partnership will reinforce the importance of calling 999.
The latest message is backed by the Vodafone Ireland Foundation who has awarded funding worth €150,000 to the Irish Heart Foundation to strengthen the Chain of Survival nationwide and save more lives over the next two years. Calling 999 is the first of four vital links in the resuscitation ‘Chain of Survival’, immediately followed by early CPR, early defibrillation and early access to advanced care.
Vodafone Ireland Foundation (VIF) was established in 2003 to help support Irish charities to respond to the needs in Irish society. To date the Foundation has committed over €3m in funding to the sector. Following a strategic review in 2006, the Foundation looked to increase the positive impact of its funding by prioritising its efforts on supporting programmes to help improve the lives of children, young people and families facing adversity in Ireland.
