Oman Tourist Office announces support for wetland conservation

Howard Lake | 10 November 2008 | News

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is delighted that the Oman Tourist Office UK & Ireland is showing support for its worldwide conservation work by becoming a corporate patron scheme member. This partnership re-establishes a link between Oman and WWT first established by Sir Peter Scott, WWT’s founder, with the Sultanate over 30 years ago.
CEO Martin Spray said: “Since its launch at the beginning of this year, many organisations with a strong commitment to the environment are realising the benefit of being a patron of the WWT. By becoming a member, they are helping us with our vital work supporting some of the most important wetlands in the UK and around the world, as well as saving threatened species and inspiring millions of visitors. We welcome Oman’s vital contribution to this work”
The patron scheme offers each supporter a bespoke relationship with WWT. The supporting organisation can thereby align itself with WWT’s mission and values in its own unique way, whilst providing an important source of funding for WWT’s leading work in education, research and the environment. In return, a tailored package of benefits are offered including a range of ways to reach WWT’s almost one million visitors a year.
Alison Cryer, director of the Oman Tourist Office UK & Ireland, explains: “Oman is committed to preserving its environment and the wide range of species – including over 400 bird species – it supports. An association with WWT makes perfect sense and continues a relationship first established by Sir Peter Scott and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in the 1970s.”
