Focusing on the fundraising crunch…

Working with a client’s focus group recently, I was eager to learn how crunch times would possibly affect their giving. So, from the horse’s mouth, this is what they said, “Unless I lose my job, I will keep on giving”, “My donations mean a lot to me. I will keep giving as long as I can”, “This organisation is very important and I will continue to support it and make savings elsewhere”. Who could wish for more?
But where have I heard those sentiments before? Yes, in the last recession and the one before that.
So, my advice is to be conservative in estimating income, it pays to have a measure of caution; but keep those new initiatives coming and you could be the star fundraisers of 2009 as others withdraw into their shells.
