The Football Foundation has published the ‘Health and Wellbeing toolkit for applicants’ to help voluntary groups build successful health-focused community projects. It also includes tips on how to meet the Foundation’s criteria to be eligible for funding. The Foundation awards grants for community projects of up to £250,000.

The toolkit contains useful advice on how to build local partnerships, which key health partners to work with and how to demonstrate the impact of your project.

The toolkit covers topics such as:

Ann Keen MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary for Health Services at the Department of Health, endorsed the toolkit, saying: “I am proud of the partnership that the Department of Health and the government has with the Football Foundation. The launch of their Health and Well-being Toolkit demonstrates how football-orientated health projects can have a real effect on our communities.

“This publication will be invaluable for organisations wishing to create community projects that use football and sport to tackle the key health issues facing the nation. It provides ./guidance on how to develop lasting partnerships with health providers and those who commission services locally. It also tackles and demonstrates the vital issue of how to make a real impact”.

Since its launch in July 2000 the Foundation has funded 78 health and wellbeing projects worth £7.7 million.
