New Head of Large Charities at the Charity Commission

The Charity Commission has appointed Beryl Hobson as the new Head of its Large Charities Division, which manages and delivers the Commission’s advice and support services to charities whose annual income exceeds £5 million, except for those charities based in Wales.
There are 1,400 charities with an income that exceeds £5 million, which together account for 60% of the total income for registered charities and employ more than half of all employees working in the charitable sector.
With an early career in the insurance industry, Hobson joins the Commission from Group B Strep Support where she was interim Chief Executive. She has been involved with charities for many years in a number of roles, including as a trustee and independent examiner. She has served as the Chair of a NHS Primary Care Trust, and is a lay member for the Bar Standards Boards, which includes being a panel member on barristers’ disciplinary tribunals.
