CLIC Sargent voted HBOS Charity of the Year 2008
Children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent has been voted HBOS’s Charity of the Year for its Million £ Challenge 2008 by a vote by over 31,500 members of staff. This beats last year’s record of 26,500 votes.
Almost half the votes went to CLIC Sargent, which intends to use the funding to pay for financial care grants for families of children with cancer.
Staff at HBOS will take part in fundraising events throughout 2008, with HBOS giving up to £1 million of the money raised to CLIC Sargent. Two other charities were short-listed, Age Concern and Diabetes UK, and after the £1 million for CLIC Sargent is raised, any additional funds will be split equally between all three charities.
The 2007 Charity of the Year, the British Heart Foundation, received £1.8 million from the partnership. In addition, the WRVS and a partnership between the Family Holiday Association and the RNLI each received over £800,000.
This year HBOS aims to break last year’s record total of £3.4 million.
The Million £ Challenge is the main focus for collective fundraising across HBOS. It was conceived in 2002 following the merger of Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Through all the fundraising events since its creation, more than £11 million has been raised for a wide range of deserving causes.
