The Plant A Tree Today Foundation Gala Fundraising Dinner & 2nd Birthday held on 2nd November was a huge success raising almost 200,000 baht for the charity. The evening was sponsored by Raimon Land and held at the Conrad Hotel, Bangkok.
The Plant-A-Tree-Today (PATT) Foundation was formed in 2005 with its mission to react to problems caused by the massive and increasing levels of deforestation worldwide, raise awareness of environmental issues and the role forests play, take action against climate change, educate children on these issues and to plant more trees. The Midas Partnership, fundraising consultancy, have been chosen to work with PATT in the UK. Zoë Westerman, Client Acquisitions Partner at The Midas Partnership is delighted to add Plant a Tree Today to their growing list of international clients, which commenced in 2004 with the acquisition of The Royal Flying Doctor account (Australia). Zoë said ‘PATT’s goal is to plant 1 million trees per year worldwide! An exciting challenge for Midas to locate the funds!’
At the event almost 200 guests enjoyed a 4-course meal, classical and swing band music from the Shrewsbury International School, a keynote address by K. Mechai Viravaidva from PDA (Population & Community Development Association & creator of Cabbages & Condoms, Thailand) and a silent and live charity auction. Drinks sponsors Pernod Ricard generously sponsored Jacob Creek’s wine and Chivas Regal whisky for the night, which was well received.
K.Mechai’s speech on ‘Privatising Poverty Alleviation’ had the audience spellbound as he outlined unique ways PDA has looked to the private sector to assist its efforts to bring sustainable economic development to poor rural areas of Thailand whilst integrating environmental protection in the process.
The Helping Hand Group provided auction items and also ran a live auction of selected pieces, which helped raise funds on the evening. Local artist Louise Truslow kindly donated an original painting for the auction which eventually sold for 30,000 baht.
