Generic Payroll Giving Data Protection Statement Published

Howard Lake | 26 October 2007 | Newswire

The Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) has recently published a generic Payroll Giving Data Protection Statement. The statement – which has also been approved by the Information Commissioner – is accompanied by an information briefing. This briefing will aid Professional Fundraising Organisations, Payroll Giving Agencies and charities in implementing the statement. Members of the Institute, in addition to all members of the Institute’s Payroll Giving Special Interest Group, have already received the approved generic statement and information briefing.
The Institute has also written to the Association of Payroll Giving Organisations, requesting that all Association members adopt the new statement.
Megan Pacey, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Institute of Fundraising, says:
The agreed statement serves to formalise and standardise the information on Payroll Giving mandates provided to donors by PFOs, PGAs and charities.
We are aware that charities may well wish to use their Payroll Giving donor lists for wider contact. The briefing sheet also makes recommendations here, including an acknowledgement statement to accompany the generic data protection statement.”
