New school appeal links business with education
Christ’s Hospital School in Horsham, an independent school supported by a charitable foundation, has launched a new programme called the ‘Corporate Donation Governorship Scheme’. The scheme enables a company or business association to help a disadvantaged child in the local community by sponsoring and supporting them throughout their education.
The new Donation scheme is being piloted in Sussex and each company that becomes a Donation Governor can help mentor, support and guide the child. Through a range of events organised by Christ’s Hospital, Donation Governors will be able to visit the school, meet their chosen child and learn more about Christ’s Hospital.
The school says that it has already received interest in the scheme from more than 30 organisations. Sponsorship consists of making a one-off payment and then assigning a member of staff as the Donation Governor. Christ’s Hospital will then suggest a suitable candidate, between the ages of 11 to 16, to be mentored.

Tony Thorne from Christ’s Hospital said: “This project will forge fantastic links between the local business community and the school, and may even result in potential employees of the future, putting something back into the local economy.”
