Almost half of population never volunteers

Howard Lake | 31 August 2007 | News

Almost half (42%) of the population have never volunteered and nearly a quarter have ever even thought about it, according to a survey by the British Heart Foundation.

The BHF conducted the survey as part of a campaign to encourage more people across the country to volunteer.

Results also revealed that nearly 60 per cent of people questioned felt they did not have time to volunteer, while 15 per cent thought they would not have control over the hours they worked.

The BHF is looking for more volunteers at its 530 shops across the UK, which annually generate more than £9m for the charity.
