FARM-Africa launches online ethical wedding service

Howard Lake | 3 July 2007 | News

FARM-Africa, the charity that works to reduce poverty in eastern Africa and South Africa, has created its own online ethical wedding service, enabling couples to use their wedding list to help make a lasting difference to some of the poorest families in Africa.

Couples using the service encourage their families and friends to visit the website and, instead of buying another toast rack, buy a bee hive, tools and seeds. or a dairy goat for an African family.

FARM-Africa lets couples choose to set up the African Dowry gift list on its own, or use it along with a more traditional gift list to give friends and family a choice.

The new wedding site complements FARM-Africa’s other ethical gift site at www.farmfriends.org.uk.

The new site was built with consultancy and technical assistance from consultancy and content management specialists Pixl8 Interactive and Western Consulting, the consulting arm of Western Group.

Michael Newsome, Director of Fundraising at FARM-Africa, said: FARM-Africa is enormously thankful to Pixl8 Interactive who massively exceeded our expectations and delivered far more than we had expected and kindly donated the content management software for the site.

“We are also hugely grateful for the support, generosity and counsel of Western Consulting who have made this whole venture possible and also donated their pioneering Listen Marketing software and ongoing technical support.”

Of the site’s value Newsome said: “By using the African Dowry website you can set up a gift list which will help to support FARM-Africa’s projects in east and South Africa. It’s great for couples to know that their wedding will keep on giving for years to come, long after the cake and the confetti is over.”
