Keen interest in Building Change Trust

Howard Lake | 12 June 2007 | News

The Building Change Trust announced in March by the Big Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland is attracting keen interest. The Big Lottery Fund is making one grant of £10 million available as an endowment, expendable over ten years between 2008 and 2018.

It is understood that there will be bids from at least one university consortium, an unbrella voluntary sector body, a community finance organisation and an existing foundation, amongst others. The deadline for completed applications is 29th June.

The aim of the Building Change Trust is to build the capacity of the voluntary and community sector by equipping it to meet the changing needs of disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland. The work that the Building Change Trust supports must ensure people can actively participate in their communities to bring about change.

Proposals will need to evidence how the Trust will support Big Lottery’s underlying principles of addressing disadvantage and promoting tolerance and social inclusion and contributing to the reduction of poverty.

It is the intention that the Trust will provide a legacy that extends beyond the life and scope of the funding and has a transformational impact on the Voluntary and Community Sector and disadvantaged communities in Northern Ireland.
