Cadbury's support community library scheme in Africa

Howard Lake | 6 June 2007 | News

Cadbury staff have seen more than 9,000 books shipped to Ghana in West Africa after a company-wide appeal was launched to improve education in the cocoa-growing nation.

The Books for Ghana appeal was launched in 2006 and after a second year of collecting, Cadbury Schweppes has given a further boost to the appeal by allocating more than £9,000 for the construction of six community libraries in some of the most deprived villages of Ghana.

Books collected by Cadbury staff will arrive in Ghana on June 22nd, and will eventually be housed in the new libraries. It is hoped the libraries will increase the educational opportunities available to children, with the potential to build more libraries in the next few years.
