Standard Life chooses Cancer Research UK for support

Cancer Research UK has been chosen as one of Standard Life’s nominated charities for 2007. The Edinburgh-based financial company’s employees will raise funds specifically for Professor Malcolm Dunlop’s research into bowel cancer at the Western General in Edinburgh.

Karen Frost, Community Investment Manager from Standard Life explained: “Our employees chose to support Cancer Research UK’s work as the money raised will go towards important work that’s taking place right here in the local community. We raised over £246,000 for Cancer Research UK in 2005 and we hope 2007 will be just as successful.”

Professor Dunlop and his team are screening all new Scottish bowel cancer patients diagnosed before the age of 55 for faults in certain genes known to be involved in the disease. This will help identify where other family members are at greater risk of developing the disease.
