LEGO Group builds support for The National Autistic Society

LEGO® UK has donated LEGO construction sets to The National Autistic Society (NAS) as part of a year-long partnership. Products including LEGO Classic House Building and LEGO Quad Bike have been distributed to NAS services around the UK, as well as to each of the Society’s six schools.

The donation was made while a research project at the Cambridge Autism Research Centre looks into ‘LEGO Therapy’, and how LEGO may be able to help children who have autism overcome social and developmental issues and its educational benefits.

Trevor Anderton, NAS Director of Fundraising, said: “Many of the children in our services already enjoy the benefits from playing with LEGO sets and so we are delighted to have been donated such a wide range of LEGO play materials which can help encourage problem solving skills and team work.”

Marko Ilincic, managing director, LEGO, said: “The NAS is a fantastic charity and the affiliation we have with this cause in light of the current research makes it a natural progression to work together.

“LEGO will be offering its support by providing product to each of the NAS schools, holding fundraising events, communicating NAS work through our website and club magazine, and holding awareness training for LEGO staff to help them understand the condition and charity that they are supporting.”
