A new report from a cross-party committee of MPs supports the campaign to ensure that further Lottery funds are not diverted to pay for th erising cost of the 2012 Olympics.

NCVO has welcomed the House of Commons Culture Media and Sport Select Committee’s report as a vital contribution to ensure that good causes are not unfairly penalised because of the Olympic and Paralympic Games’ rising infrastructure costs.

The MPs also support the call for the 12 per cent tax on lottery tickets to be dropped.

Director of public policy at the NCVO Liz Atkins said: An alternative means of funding the Olympic overspend must be found and further consideration should now be given to the 12 per cent tax. We hope the Government will listen to this Committee’s report and protect charities and community organisations by safeguarding Lottery funding from any further diversion to the Olympics.
