Ippimail adds online shopping directory to boost income for charities

Howard Lake | 16 December 2006 | News

Ippimail, the free email service, which donates 45% of profits to charity and a further 10% to the Open
Source community, has launched an online shopping directory to boost the income it can generate for charities.

Over 400 shops are listed in the shopping directory, from Apple Computers to Woolworths. Ippimail say that each purchase made via the directory will raise money for its partner charities. Shoppers get to choose which charities they wish to support.

As with other online shopping malls, “shopping via the ippimail directory costs exactly the same as if the user had gone directly to the store’s site”. The only difference is that charities benefit from
the transaction. Purchases are made directly with the stores, not with ippimail itself.

‘Ippi’ incidentally means ‘a helping hand’ or ‘doing one’s bit’ in Japanese.

Other features on the ippimail site include free e-mail, (webmail with forwarding plus anti-spam and -virus protection) blogs, websearch and newsfeeds.
