CEBF helping those in need with 118 233
The Charity Employees Benevolent Fund (CEBF), which works to support those people in need throughout the UK who have worked, or are still working for a charity along with their families, is pleased to announce its first commercial partnership. On 1st June 2006, 2Affinity & Beyond Ltd launched a directory enquiries line 118 233 and has pledged to donate 9p from each and every call to the CEBF.
The Charity Employees Benevolent Fund (CEBF) was set up and registered as a charity in 2003 with one aim – to support charity employees in times of need. The fund provides a range of assistance that includes; welfare support and advice, financial grants and allowances, information and a network of friendship. Our support is available to any person who is or has been an employee of a UK charity and their families if they are currently resident in the UK.
In order to develop our work and reach as many people in need as possible, it is essential for the CEBF to become an established voice in the charity sector and for us to be accessible to each and every charity and their employees. In order to achieve these ambitions we must significantly increase our income by exploiting opportunities such as this partnership.
118 233 is available on all BT landline networks as well as O2 and Vodafone mobile networks. 2Affinity & Beyond Ltd is in negotiations with other mobile networks in order to make it available to the wider public. 118 233 is cheaper than the most popular directory enquiry services currently on the market and by choosing to use 118 233 and encouraging others to do so you will be providing much-needed help to people in need by facilitating the expansion of the CEBF’s work.

The Charity Employees Benevolent Fund (CEBF) was set up and registered as a charity in 2003 with one aim – to support charity employees in times of need. The Fund provides a range of assistance that includes; welfare support and advice, debt counselling, care or support at home, financial grants and allowances, and information and network of friendship. Our support is available to any person who is or has been an employee of a UK charity and their families if they are currently resident in the UK.
Since its inception the CEBF has achieved a great deal, thanks to the hard work and commitment of its Board of voluntary Trustees and its Chairman who along with our Treasurer and two of our Trustees now hold or have held senior positions in major benevolent funds and charities. The fact that all of the work has been carried out on a voluntary basis has made the CEBF extremely cost effective.
However, most members of the Board of Trustees are employed full-time, and do not have sufficient time to succeed in developing the charity to its enormous potential so we must concentrate on raising the capital required to employ our first member of staff. Our Trustees’ wealth of knowledge and experience provides the basis for our advocacy work and we are striving to expand our activities in order to meet the individual needs of our client group.
This service is already in place for almost every organisation in the private and public sectors. There are over 1000 benevolent funds in the UK that support people who have worked in specific industries, professions, and arts. These benevolent funds provide advice, signposting, and financial support to their beneficiaries in times of need. However, until the CEBF was set up, there was not a single organisation providing these services to charity workers.
There is a tremendous need for the CEBF. More than half a million people currently work in the charity sector and it is widely documented that on average they earn less than their private sector counterparts. It is a significant problem that many of the near 190,000 charities cannot offer staff benefits or long-term contracts. We know just how important the work of the CEBF can be to so many people throughout the UK who devote their careers to helping the most needy people in our society, and often to the detriment of their own long-term future.
