SVP aims for €5 million this Christmas

Howard Lake | 1 December 2006 | News

Irish charity St Vincent de Paul is aiming to raise €5 million before Christmas to fund its work with the poor. SVP Week runs from next Sunday culminating in a nationwide mass collection on December 10th.

SVP reported an increase in donations from €23.5 million in 2004 to €30.8 million in 2005. Much of this increase was down to a particularly sharp increase in legacies, from €5.7 million to €11.47 million. The society is one of the biggest recipients of charitable legacies in Ireland and earlier this year made the news when a legacy worth €10 million was left to a Galway SVP branch.

In total, SVP spent €41 million in 2005, with the balance of money coming from the government.
