Age Concern wins Campaigning Charity of the Year award

Age Concern England was named Campaigning Charity of the Year at the Charity Champion Awards held by epolitix.com last night.
The award is voted on by Parliamentarians and their staff. The award recognised Age Concern’s campaigning work to improve the lives of older people and fight for their rights. Age Concern was chosen from a shortlist of four charities selected by independent research on their impact and effective practice.
This year the charity has been particularly vocal in improving the pension rights of women and carers; has exposed the scandal of older people suffering malnutrition in hospitals; and has continued to campaign for an end to age discrimination in the work place, in health and social services, and in society at large.

Gordon Lishman, Director General at Age Concern, was presented with the award by Actress Liz Smith, who plays Nana in the TV show “The Royal Family”, at a ceremony in Westminster.
The Charity Champion Awards honour the hard work, time and effort devoted by MPs and Peers to charitable causes during the parliamentary year.
