Addenbrooke's charity to benefit from Varsity Match

Howard Lake | 28 November 2006 | Newswire

Students from Cambridge University are gearing up for one of rugby’s oldest and most traditional fixtures. The Lehman Brothers Varsity match, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary, will see rival universities Cambridge and Oxford compete to win the coveted trophy.
Part of the money raised from this year’s match will benefit children at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. The donation will be used to purchase an item of equipment to be used for children being treated at Addenbrooke’s.
Caroline Lane, Director of Fundraising at The Fund & Friends of Addenbrooke’s, the hospital’s charity said: We are delighted that Lehman Brothers have chosen to donate money to Children’s Services, a vital department of the hospital which provides a range of clinical care for children. I hope everyone enjoys the match – we will be rooting for Cambridge and hope they continue their winning streak from last year!”
This year’s match is being sponsored solely by Lehman Brothers, an international investment bank. Money from the match will also be donated to Oxford Children’s Hospital.
The match is being held at Twickenham Stadium on Tuesday 12th December,
Tickets cost £18.00 and are available to buy online at www.varsitymatch.co.uk >>>>> or by calling 01223 354131.
The Fund & Friends of Addenbrooke’s
The Fund for Addenbrooke’s was established in 1997 as the first professional fundraising office for Addenbrooke’s Hospital >>>>>.
The Friends of Addenbrooke’s was launched in July 1999 under the umbrella of the Fund for Addenbrooke’s, to raise awareness within the local and regional community of the need for fundraising for the hospital.
With all the demands on NHS resources Addenbrooke’s has to supplement its budget by seeking extra funds in a variety of means. Charitable funding can help make a real difference, delivering benefits to both patients and staff through the purchase of new equipment, research, staff training and refurbishment of clinics and wards.
Over the last six years the Fund and Friends has raised £3.5 million for a wide range of projects for more than 35 departments.
