Seven per cent of internet users donate online

Seven per cent of internet users in the UK have made a donation to charity online in the last year, according to research from Continental Research.

The figure of 1.8m is down from 2.3m the previous year, which the company says was an inflated figure because of the huge response to the Asian Tsunami appeals. James Myring of Continental Research said this shows how effective the internet can be in responding to emergency appeals, but also how figures can fluctuate because of one event.

The survey is conducted twice a year through face-to-face interviews with 1,000 people nationwide.
