75,000 children to take part in sport charity's fundraising day

Howard Lake | 26 September 2006 | News

Over 75,000 schoolchildren from 288 schools across the UK have registered to take part in a series of sponsored runs and sporting events on Friday 29 September.

The fundraising day is coordinated by children’s sport charity Schoolchildren for Children, which promotes regular exercise and organised fitness activities in schools. This is the second year of the campaign and figures are up 35 per cent on last year.

Each child raises at least a pound each to take part. Participating schools keep half the funds to develop their own physical education programmes. The remainder is channelled to school projects in developing countries through Schoolchildren for Children.
