Heather Clarke's death prompts donations

Howard Lake | 15 August 2006 | News

The death of golfer Darren Clarke’s wife, Heather, has seen the local branch of Marie Curie inundated with donations. Heather died after a long battle with breast cancer in her hometown of Dungannon in Northern Ireland.

The focal point for the donations has been the Marie Cure shop in the town, with the shop manager saying they had received ‘tons’ of donations. Darren has pulled out of a number of major golf competitions over the last few years to be with his wife during the illness.

Meanwhile, fellow Irish men and two of Darren’s good friends in the golfing world, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley, have pledged their winnings to breast cancer in their next competition later this week.
