Recycling Appeal passes £2 million mark

Howard Lake | 26 July 2006 | News

Recycling experts Redeem plc have announced that their Recycling Appeal has generated £2 million from used printer cartridges and old mobile phones for good causes across the UK and Ireland.

In addition to the funds raised, Recycling Appeal has also helped protect and preserve the environment “by diverting nearly 4,000 tonnes of unnecessary waste from landfill”.

Recycling Appeals works with charities, schools, community groups and other good causes to receive cash for used printer cartridges and old mobile phones. Its charity partners include Macmillan Cancer Support, RSPB, Oxfam and Marie Curie Cancer Care as well as many local charities.

Thanking supporters for helping them achieve the £2 million figure, Jamie Rae, Chief Executive of Redeem, pointed out that, with an estimated 90 million mobiles lying gathering dust across Britain and around three quarters of the UK’s printer cartridges being thrown away, there was still plenty more recycling and fundraising to be done.
