Dame Suzi Leather DBE is to be the new Chair of the Charity Commission, taking over from the current Chair, Geraldine Peacock CBE, on 1 August 2006. Suzi will step down as chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), a role she has occupied since 2002.

Dame Suzi’s new role was announced by Ed Miliband, Minister for the Third Sector at the Cabinet Office.

Previously she was the founder deputy chair of the UK Food Standards Agency and in recent years has chaired the Exeter and District Community NHS Trust as well as the Health Forum, an inter-agency partnership promoting public health in North and East Devon. She has a particular interest in the role of regulation in driving up standards of performance and consumer protection.
