Riding for the Disabled Association Launch New National Fundraising Scheme – Just Thirty Five Donated Empty Inkjet Cartridges Bu

Debbie Greaves and Major Launch RDA Recycling Scheme
Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre is a quiet oasis tucked alongside the high brick walls of Wormwood Scrubs Prison, and it’s there that every day riding sessions are held, not just for the able bodied, but also for women like Debbie Greaves. Debbie has always loved horses and riding, but a stroke severely affected her physical abilities. However, at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Club she is given the opportunity to continue her favourite sport during one of their numerous Riding for the Disabled Association sessions.
But hard hats, equipment and feed for the ponies cost money, and that’s where empty inkjet cartridges can play a vital, if unexpected part.
To raise funds, every Riding for the Disabled Association Member Group (and there are over 500 across the UK) will simply collect empty inkjet cartridges and mobile phones, and return them in freepost envelopes to Environmental Business Products (EBP) in London where they will be recycled. Laser cartridges will be collected by arrangement with EBP directly from supporters’ offices too. For example, for thirty-five cartridges received, EBP will donate £35.00, enough to replace a hard riding helmet. We are focussing on new riding helmets at the moment”, says Mary-Joy Langdon, who manages the Wormwood Scrubs stables, but in a few week’s time it could be repairs to stabling, or replacement tack. Plus the more envelopes we distribute the more money we can raise for our own Pony Centre – each centre has a unique label so we will know exactly how many cartridges we have managed to recycle”.
Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre will be handing out the freepost envelopes at their annual Horses in Harmony event on 9th July (tel. 0845 450 7016 or email:

for information and tickets), as well as at their Summer Horse and Hound Show. Riders, supporters, parents and friends are encouraged to send in their cartridges. Moreover, the recycling scheme’s free, it won’t cost a thing and it will help save thousands of tonnes of non-biodegradeable waste from ending up in landfill sites. Freepost envelopes can be collected from any Riding for the Disabled Association centre; for the location of your nearest group visit www.rda.org.uk. Contact Environmental Business Products tel. 0208 838 6888 or visit the company’s website at www.inkagain.co.uk to request recycling bags for mobiles or cartridges, for more information about the scheme or to arrange collections of laser cartridges to support Riding for the Disabled.
